Can Cadillac win where BMW and Mercedes are king?

Globe and Mail Update

The first generation CTS did well by Cadillac standards, but barely made a dent against Asian and European entry-luxes. How does it stack up for 2008? ...Read the full article

A very nice ride and the upgraded HP is very snappy when required. Also the upgraded braking system on the Type S is very noticable. I did a lot of homework on the various luxury sedans prior to buying and to me the Acura TL was still the way to go. I owned a 2004 Acura TL prior to this.

  4. Dave Wilton from Wpg, Canada writes: The CTS is an interesting car and last Sept I was I the market for one but both dealers here did not have a 6 speed manual and I wasn't buying one without driving it. Nor did they seem to have interest in having one in stock for those few customers who perfer to shift themselves to try out. When i mentioned 6 speed i sensed a lack of interest. I now have a TSX and am happy the way things worked out. It's a great vehical.

  6. Jim A from Canada writes: Bill - if you think the TSX is great then you should try the TL - Type S. Great car.
  7. Mitch Bell from Prince Rupert, BC, Canada writes: It seems very odd to me to have an article about Entry-Luxes and leave out the 3-series Bimmer and the C-class Benz. Yes, they're the big sellers, and we're all familiar with them, but that's why they MUST be included. Every one of these cars, when reviewed by any other author, would be explaining how it compares to the 3-series. It is the Gold Standard for the Entry-Lux, and it is a well-earned and well-deserved title. The C-class, on the other hand, is from the biggest "prestige" brand out there. I just bought one, having previously spent a LOT of time in Audis, BMWs, Lexi and Acurae. None of them have the brand recognition factor of a Mercedes. I find it amazing. I NEVER had anyone come up to me and say, "Nice Acura!", but I get a "Nice Benz!" on a regular basis. To me, ignoring these two huge players in the market is like writing an article about the rhinocerous in your living room, and ignoring the rhinocerous, choosing instead to talk about the peculiar trampling and wear patterns on your carpet. Altogether, though, a wonderful article. My only other wonder is how the CTS will stand up from an auditory perspective. Fire up an Acura, and you get this wonderful high-revving wail that only the Japanese can do. Fire up an Audi or Bimmer, and you get this musical low burble that the Germans have turned into an art form. The 300C (and esp. the SRT8) have a muscle-car V8 rumble. It's wonderful, and it brings a smile to the face of any car guy. As it sits, however, the CTS has not carved itself a niche like those. The first time I drove a CTS, it reminded me of my father's Buick, as far as the sound goes. Until Caddy masters ALL the details, I think they're destined to be left behind. I think they will catch up -- the current car was surprisingly good, and proof they are learning -- but I think they need two more model generations to do it.
