Rechargeable car cleaner and spray-on shiner

From Thursday's Globe and Mail

Rechargeable batteries have changed the way power tools like drills and saws are used. That same convenience and portability is now available to those of us who enjoy cleaning our vehicle, or those who are required to do so.

Power Sidekick combines a changeable battery with three attachments allowing you to wash, vacuum and wax/polish without having to trip over power cords.

The unit consists of a main motor host and battery holder, extension, a 10-inch wash brush, 10-inch buffing brush, on-unit soap container and powerful vacuum. There are handgrips and side grips and the manufacturer says the patented technology allows for the addition of more functional attachments in the future. The suggested retail price for the whole package is $159. Check it out at viaworld.com.

A major part of cleaning a modern vehicle is dealing with all the plastic or composite trim. While great for warding off damage in parking lots and having the life expectancy of nuclear waste, these materials can be difficult to clean. Trim Shine to the rescue.

This spray-on coating instantly shines and brightens dull or faded plastic, vinyl and rubber. Its maker, Stoner Inc. says it has been a secret ingredient of professional detail work for more than 15 years.

In addition to restoring colour or brilliance to everything from your convertible top to the dash and gaskets, Trim Shine will hide those white marks where you got a little carried away with the wax.

Available at Canadian Tire and other retail outlets, Trim Shine retails for less than $10 a can. You can also get it on the Web directly from Stoner at trimshine.com or give them a call at 1-800-227-5538.
